Deacon Alfhonza Brown Sr., 73, of New Castle went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh.
Born on June 6, 1944, in Durham, N.C., he was the son of the late Eddie and Lula Davis Brown. He was married to Margaret Ann Woods Brown for over 24 years.
Alfhonza Brown was a hardworking man, having been employed as a laborer at Rockwell Spring Division until his retirement.
Affectionately known as Deacon Brown, Alfhonza took pride as a deacon of Prayer Chapel Church of God in Christ. He was a praying man. He would visit the nursing homes, praying with the residents and often presenting them with balloons, fruit and cards. He was well-known for the prayer services in the downtown square that he conducted for over 19 years. He was the leader of Prayer Clinic Ministries.
In addition to his parents Deacon Brown was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn and Mary Brown.
Deacon Brown will be sadly missed by his wife, Margaret Ann Brown; four sons, Alphonza Brown, Bobby, Demetrius and Billy McKnight; one daughter, Angela McKnight; one brother, William Brown; two sisters, Edna Faye Blackwell and Karen Brown; godchildren, Marina Jackson, Breona Smith and Sandra Fitzpatrick; a special cousin, Eloise Rodwell; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Deacon Brown will be remembered as a loving, forgiving, kind, caring man who lived by his word and his special way of praising the Lord without his shoes.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Prayer Chapel Church of God in Christ, 26 E. Long Ave., where the Homegoing Service will be Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at 11 a.m.
Deacon Brown will be entombed at Parkside Cemetery.
