Amos's Story

Amos Massaro, 88, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colo., passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at MorningStar Bear Creek Senior Living.

Amos was born Dec. 15, 1928, to Joseph and Lucy Massaro in New Castle, Pa.
Amos grew up and spent his entire life in New Castle until a move to Colorado Springs, Colo., one year ago so that he could be near his daughter and family as he struggled with dementia.
He graduated from New Castle High School, served his country in the U.S. Army, and then worked as a bricklayer for Massaro and Massaro Inc. until his retirement in 1993.
He married Ruth Maruso on Sept. 18, 1948.
Amos attended Christian Assembly in New Castle, where he was involved in various capacities, serving the Lord he loved. In 1984, he and his wife began attending First Assembly of God in New Castle. He found many ways to serve there over the last 32 years.
He was a quiet but strong man who was loved and respected by all that knew him. He was an avid reader of the Bible. His unwavering commitment to Jesus was evident in all he did. He was a faithful servant and a humble leader.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Massaro of Colorado Springs; two children, Dennis of Antalya, Turkey, and Gayle (Roger) Call of Colorado Springs; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Alyssa), Call, Melissa Call, Sarah Gallagher and Hannah (Jamie) Dreher; three great-grandchildren, Rylee Call, Reagan Call and J.D. Dreher; one brother, Domenick (Rose) Massaro; two sisters, Mary Barbella and Josephine (William) Barber; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucy Darlano Massaro; his brothers, Carmen, Joshua and Joseph; and his sister, Pauline.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle, Pa. Pastor Chad Stoecker will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to Compassion International, 12290 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80921 designated for "Unsponsored Children's Fund" or to Faith and Learning International, Box 480, Wheaton, Ill. 60187 designated for Dennis Massaro - Turkey Ministry.
