Barbara J. DeRicco, age 84, of Neshannock Township, passed away the morning of June 18, 2017 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born March 9, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Robert and Pauline Sweeney Strickland.
Barbara was preceded in death in May, 2001 by her husband of 16 years, Joseph DeRicco, whom she married in May, 1985.
She was employed with Fishers Big Wheel in security.
Barbara was the chairman of the Motor Corp. for the American Cancer Society and was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She loved animals and enjoyed bird watching and volunteering at the Lawrence County Humane Society.
A member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, she taught Vacation Bible School. Barbara also attended First Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Gail Simpson of New Castle; three sons, Todd Simpson of Illinois, Rev. Gregg Simpson of Hickory, NC, and Brian Simpson of New Castle; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and will be missed by her beloved dog Ike.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cindy Simpson and a brother, Robert Strickland.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with her son, Rev. Gregg Simpson, officiating.
