Beverly Rose Alborn Wimer, 86, of Grove City, Pa., passed away at Maplewood Senior Living in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, following a short illness.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1931, in New Castle, Pa., to Clare Samuel and Hildreth Antoinette Walton Alborn.
Beverly grew up in Ellwood City, Pa., graduating from Lincoln High School and New Castle Business College. During those years, she enjoyed ice skating, rollerskating, music and art.
On June 29, 1951, she married Kenneth Dale Wimer. Only a few months after marriage, she was stricken with polio and soon became a polio survivor who was determined to walk on her own and live independently.
Beverly raised her family as a homemaker and was employed in secretarial positions. She served the Grove City community as president of the Junior Women's Club, the Garden Club, Football Mother's Club, PTA, the Community Library Board and Eastern Star. She was the organist for Eastbrook Presbyterian, her childhood church.
Survivors include her son, Derran K. Wimer and wife, Susan of Hudson, Ohio; son-in-law, William Doyle of Mercer; six grandchildren, Michelle L. Jordan, Nicole J. Fleming, Andrew K. Wimer, Bradley J. Wimer and stepgrandson, Zachary Doyle; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Kenneth (2003); daughter, Bonnie Wimer Doyle (2017); and infant granddaughter, Lia Vislay (1984).
Funeral services will be at Smith Funeral Home, village of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant, Pa., on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Eastbrook Cemetery, Hickory Township, Lawrence County, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions be made to Grove City United Way for the Imagination Library, Box 388, Grove City, Pa. 16127.
