Burke Minns, 73, of Norton Shores, Michigan, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018, in Holland, Michigan.
He was born June 5, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, and moved to New Castle, Pennsylvania, at age 8.
Burke attended New Castle Senior High School and graduated in the class of 1963.
He joined Army. Burke served in the Army as a medic during the Vietnam War and the Revolution in Dominican Republic before he retired after 20 years of service. He then worked for 20 years as a correctional officer at the Eastern Correctional Institution for the state of Maryland and retired in 2004 after 20 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing in his spare time and attended Harvest Bible Chapel.
On July 2, 2003, he married the former Cheryl Glaxner in Salisbury, Maryland, and she survives him, along with his first wife and mother of his children, Darlene Corbin Minns of Princess Anne, Maryland; three children, Twanna Johnson of Princess Anne, Maryland, Hasson Minns of Princess Anne, Maryland, and Burke J. "BJ" (Kelly) Minns of Salisbury, Maryland; two stepchildren, Kenneth (Sandy) Matson of Monroe, Michigan, and Kristen (John) Whitaker of Muskegon, MIichigan; nine grandchildren, a stepgrandchild; two great-grandchildren; and his four-legged friend, "Miss Kitty."
Burke was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Estover and VJ Johnson; and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018, at Graceland Cemetery, 261 Cemetery Lane, New Castle.
