Carolyn Ann Pearce, 85, of New Castle passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Heritage Valley Hospital, Beaver.
Miss Pearce was born on Dec. 14, 1931, in Farrell to the late William W. and Annabelle Diamond Pearce.
Carolyn was a 1950 graduate of New Castle High School. Upon graduation, she entered the novitiate at the Sisters of St. Josephs in Baden, Pennsylvania. She then began her studies at St. Francis of Loretto University and, following her graduation, she earned her master's degree in education at Duquesne University.
Carolyn retired from the Diocese of Pittsburgh where she taught for more than 45 years in the Catholic school system.
Carolyn was a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish St. Mary's Church.
She held memberships in the AMVETS Auxiliary Post 281; DAR Fort Pitt Chapter; Eagles Auxiliary Post 455 and People Concerned for the Unborn Child.
Carolyn is survived by two sisters, Mary Hogue and Virginia Pearce Hamilton, both of New Castle; a brother, G. Richard Pearce and his wife, Gloria, of Cerritos, California; and a godson, Walter Hamilton of New Castle.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Carey and Marjorie Direnzo; and four brothers, Charles Pearce, Judge James E. Pearce, William Pearce and John Pearce.
Calling hours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Joseph B. Codori, parochial vicar, serving as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
