Cheryl E. Prowell-Mitchell, 57, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at her residence.
She was born May 29, 1960, in Birmingham, Alabama.
She is survived by her mother, Ethel Waters Prowell of New Castle, and was preceded in death by her father, Waddell Prowell.
Cheryl had worked as the kitchen supervisor for Head Start of Lawrence County for 26 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Baptist Church.
Cheryl loved cooking and baking, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
She will always be remembered as a devoted mother, daughter, grandmother and sister, who took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, Cheryl is survived by her children, Chaia Mitchell and Amanda Mitchell, both of New Castle; sister, Irene Prowell of New Castle; former husband, Minister Gary Mitchell; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lyvonnus Prowell; and niece, Mariah Jai Anderson.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Fletcher Hudson.
Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
