Darrell Earl Dean, 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017.
He was born April 1, 1940, a son of the late Robert Earl Dean and Anna Marion (Critchlow) Dean, and had two brothers, Ronald Dale Dean (wife, Pam) and Gary Leroy Dean.
Darrell was surrounded by his family and his loving wife, Diana Jean Dean.
He had three children, Lori Hites (husband, Bob), Robert Dean (wife, June) who reside in Pennsylvania, and Ronald "Ron" Dean, who lives nearby in Charlotte.
He was blessed with seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four nephews.
New Castle was his home until 1986, when he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina.
Their warm, welcoming home hosted many family holiday gatherings.
Friends and relatives loved coming to visit and enjoyed fun-filled auto shows and NASCAR race weekends.
Darrell had a passion for anything with a motor and loved drag racing with his sons, and spent many afternoons watching his favorite football teams, the Pitt Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He truly cared about getting to know people and would ask for and remember the name of virtually everyone he met. He was always asking questions and loved learning how things worked and why.
Oftentimes, he would see something and decide that it was just what a friend needed and he would say, "take this home with you. You might be able to use it."
Darrell will be always loved, never forgotten and forever missed.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Randall United Methodist Church, 48144 Randall Church Road, Norwood, North Carolina 28128. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Caitlin McAlhaney.
The church will be serving a meal after the service in the fellowship hall.
