David N. Fitzgerald, 78, formerly of Neshannock Township, passed away peacefully at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, in The Grove at New Wilmington.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born March 9, 1939, in New Castle, a son of the late Samuel R. and M. Henrietta Campbell Fitzgerald.
He was a 1957 graduate of Harbor High School, Ashtabula, Ohio, and a former student at New Castle High School, where he lettered in various sports.
Dave entered active duty in 1957, and proudly served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1959.
After 25 years of service, he retired as an oiler in 1991 from the former Truck and Axel Division of Rockwell International Corp., New Castle, where he was nicknamed "Silver Fox" for his striking mop of gray hair.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Dave was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 455, New Castle. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid watcher of 24-hour TV news sources, as well as a daily cover-to-cover reader of newspapers until his eyesight began to fail.
Dave had a talent for all things mechanical, and never hesitated at the opportunity to help a friend or neighbor mend a faulty tool, appliance or vehicle. Most importantly, Dave loved spending time with his family, particularly attending his grandchildren's many activities and sporting events.
Surviving are his wife, the former Geraldine "Gerri" Print, whom he married July 14, 1962; two daughters, Jodi Palmer and Lisa Micco and her husband, Patrick, all of Neshannock; a son, Sean Fitzgerald and his wife, Lisa, of Mahoningtown; seven grandchildren, Dylan and Hayley Micco; Brooklyn and Brandon Palmer; Ian Fitzgerald; Madison Fitzgerald; and David Huff; and a great-grandson, Saylor Palmer.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by a son, David L. Fitzgerald, and a brother, Samuel Fitzgerald.
