David Charles Hogans, 81, of New Castle went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.
He was the son of the late David Benjamin and Josephine Spriggs Hogans. He was born in Altoona, Pa., on May 10, 1936.
Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and served his country until 1961. In 1956, Charles married Loretta McHenry and to that union was born three children. He was a hard working man, who held various positions until his retirement in 2010 as a school bus driver.
Charles was an active member of St. Paul's Baptist Church. He served his church as the Chairman of the Deacon Board and Sunday school teacher. Besides being an avid collector, he enjoyed photography, fishing and his favorite football team The Steelers. Most of all, he loved spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Darwin Hogans.
Charles will be sadly missed by his wife Loretta of 61years; three sons, William Raymond (Mitzila) Hogans of Glendale, Ariz., Charles David Hogans of Virginia Beach, Va., and James Bell of Los Angeles; one daughter, Tracy (Earl) Woodard of Middletown, Del.; one brother, Robert (Kim) Donnell; one sister, Mary Cummings; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of additional relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Baptist Church, 616 W. North St., New Castle, where the homegoing service will begin at 11 a.m.
David Charles Hogans will be buried in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pa., on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, with military honors.
