Donald G. Thompson, 79, of New Castle passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at home.
Donald was born on Oct. 2, 1937, son of the late Virgil and Glee Booher Thompson.
Donald graduated from Mt. Jackson High School, attended Slippery Rock University and also served his country in the Air Force Reserves.
Donald enjoyed sports. He coached his daughter's softball team.
He worked at Babcock-Wilcox in Beaver Falls, Universal Rundle and American Cyanamid.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife, the former Norma Gumley, whom he married April 18, 1958; his daughter, Debra Schukert and her husband, Richard, of Edinburg; and his son, Brian Thompson of New Castle. Donald is grandfather to three grandchildren, Brittany Arent, Jared Gustafson and Corey Thompson; great-grandfather to Hayley Gallagher, who has brought him much joy these past few years. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Leeper and her husband, David, of New Castle; and his brother, Glenn Thompson and his wife, Kay, of Jacksonville, Florida.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery; a daughter, Vicki Gustafson; a brother, David Thompson; and a granddaughter, Kylee Arent
Donald will be remembered for his great love for his family.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours.
Internment will take place at a future date in the Mount Jackson UP Cemetery.
