Donna J. McFarland, 89, a lifelong resident of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018.
She was born Sept. 16, 1928, in New Castle to Cecil R. and Blanche A. Cooley Potter.
She attended New Castle High School and Youngstown Cosmetology School.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Kenneth D. "Mac" McFarland, whom she married June 24, 1950.
Donna formerly worked as a hair dresser and also was employed at G.C. Murphy Co.
She loved playing cards and was a former member of the Melody Afternoon Bowling League.
She enjoyed being with family, especially her great-grandchildren, and loved her dogs.
Donna was a former member of Third Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, where she served as a deacon. Recently, she attended New Life Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Jack) Abranovich of New Castle and Kimberly (Charlie) Cyrus of Mount Jackson; a son, Kenneth R. (Alyce) McFarland of Brighton, Michigan; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Katie, Zachary, Casey and Karlie; and five great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Olivia, Elliot, Carter and Caleb.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gerald and Harry Potter.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.
