Dorothy E. Coyne, 91, of Neshannock Township passed away peacefully at 7:55 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, in AHN Healthcare at Home Inpatient Hospice Unit at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Coyne was born Nov. 8, 1925, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Rudolph C. and Ethel Gwin Onasch.
She was a lifelong area resident and 1944 graduate of New Castle High School. In addition to raising her two daughters, Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper at the former Coyne Trucking Co. in Union Township, previously Bowman Trucking Co., a business her husband Jack owned and operated for many years.
She was a founding member of St. Camillus de Lellis Parish.
Dorothy volunteered at Jameson Memorial Hospital for many years, and also at the former St. Mary parochial school, where she served as a recess monitor and helped prepare meals.
She enjoyed gardening, antiquing and many arts and crafts, particularly woodworking, sewing and painting. She instilled her many passions and interests in her two daughters, all of which they both carry on today. Dorothy cherished the time she was able to spend playing with her grandson, Liam, and in recent years loved making phone calls to him so she could listen to him playing the piano.
Her husband of over 60 years, John "Jack" Coyne, whom she married April 16, 1955, preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 2015. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Beth Coyne, of Maynard, Mass., and Cathy A. Coyne and her husband, Thomas E. Murray; and a grandson, Liam Murray, all of Bethlehem, Pa.; a sister, Donn J. Onasch, of Andover, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Clara Coyne, of New Castle; along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother, William H. Onasch.
