Dorothy M. Shaffer, 92, of New Castle went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Haven Convalescent Home.
Born on Sept. 4, 1924, in New Castle, she was a daughter of John and Mary Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lisle J. Shaffer, whom she married in 1947.
She served as a WAVE in the Navy during World War II.
Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family.
She was a life member of Croton United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 315.
Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and was the charter member of O.N.O. card club. Most important to her was her family and the times she spent with them.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Donald Eve of New Castle; a sister, Charlotte (Fred) Caruso; two granddaughters, Kim Eve and Kristen (Joseph) Lalama; and three great-granddaughters, Annalynn, Emma and Lucia Lalama.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ruth Wilson and Jeanne Grimm; and a brother, Sgt. James E. Wilson.
Dorothy's family wishes to express their appreciation to Mark Tanner and the entire staff of the Haven Convalescent Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to her over the years.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Long officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
