Dorothy J. Weaver, 98, of New Castle passed away the evening of June 22, 2017, at Avalon Nursing Center.
Born on April 4, 1919, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late James R. and Lina M. Canan Tanner. On March 1, 1940, she married her beloved husband, Clair M. Weaver, and the two of them spent over 60 years together until he preceded her in death on March 9, 2000.
Dorothy retired from the cafeteria at Jameson Hospital. She was a very active member of Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Church. Dorothy volunteered as a Girl Scout and Brownie leader, and she was a charter member of the South New Castle Borough Fire Department Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Sweet Adelines. Dorothy catered for many years and was known for her buns and honey rolls.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Marian J. DeRobertis and husband John of New Castle, Claire E. Goulish of Youngstown, Ohio, Rochelle M. Heaton of Hopewell Township, and Wayne M. Weaver and wife Nancy of Washington, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elinor J. Seaton, and brothers, Leroy, Raymond, David, Samuel and James Tanner.
A memorial service will be held July 8, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Church, officiated by Rev. Larry Llewellyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's honor to Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 1947 Morris St., New Castle, Pa. 16102.
