Douglas R Mooney Douglas R. Mooney, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 3, 1947 in New Castle to Ralph and Mary Virginia Mooney. Ralph was a son of Italian immigrants, and Mary was of English descent.
Doug graduated from Neshannock High School in New Castle, where he was all-county quarterback and all-state honorable mention. He was also a member of an all-state two-mile relay team.
At LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, he graduated with a business degree, played baseball and was a bareback bronc champion. His claim to fame was that he was a one-time three-second bull rider, falling five seconds short of a championship ride.
During the Vietnam Conflict, he served three years with the military police in Germany, where he was an expert marksman and member of a pistol team that traveled across Europe.
While growing up, he worked in the family business, Mooney Brothers Trucking Company, and after graduation from college, he was employed for many years with G and R Equipment Bobcat dealership in Oklahoma City as a sales representative, and completed his career with Great Plains Kubota.
Doug was an active member of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, where he faithfully served as an usher and Sunday school teacher.
He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and loved dealing in the stock market.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his stepmother, Dorothy Seymour Mooney of New Castle; brothers, Gordon and Kevin of New Castle; sisters, Elaine Miodowski of Linden, Michigan, and Sheila Lin Lloyd of Timberville, Virginia; four nephews and three nieces.
Memorial services will be conducted at First Baptist Church, New Castle, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018.
