Douglas R Mooney

December 03, 1947 - October 24, 2018

Douglas R. Mooney, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 3, 1947 in New Castle to Ralph and Mary Virginia Mooney. Ralph was a son of Italian immigrants, and Mary was of English descent.
Doug graduated from Neshannock High School in New Castle, where he was all-county quarterback and all-state honorable mention. He was also a member of an all-state two-mile relay team.
At LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, he graduated with a business degree, played baseball and was a bareback bronc champion. His claim to fame was that he was a one-time three-second bull rider, falling five seconds short of a championship ride.
During the Vietnam Conflict, he served three years with the military police in Germany, where he was an expert marksman and member of a pistol team that traveled across Europe.
While growing up, he worked in the family business, Mooney Brothers Trucking Company, and after graduation from college, he was employed for many years with G and R Equipment Bobcat dealership in Oklahoma City as a sales representative, and completed his career with Great Plains Kubota.
Doug was an active member of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, where he faithfully served as an usher and Sunday school teacher.
He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and loved dealing in the stock market.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his stepmother, Dorothy Seymour Mooney of New Castle; brothers, Gordon and Kevin of New Castle; sisters, Elaine Miodowski of Linden, Michigan, and Sheila Lin Lloyd of Timberville, Virginia; four nephews and three nieces.
Memorial services will be conducted at First Baptist Church, New Castle, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018.

Doug was a very stabilizing presence in our Sunday School Class for many years. He had a way of meeting people and in making them feel comfortable and special. He was an excellent Sunday School teacher with his excellent memory and his way to tie so many biblical facts together. Doug will be missed. I will miss him. We can take great pleasure in knowing he is without pain and that his usual big smile is now probably bigger than any of us can possibly imagine.

My heart has been so heavy since hearing of Doug's home going. I met him while he was attending LeTourneau in Longview, Texas. Since them we have remained friends through the years. I will keep my fond memories we made. One of my favorites was visiting the Mooneys in New Castle and driving one of the Mooney Bro. trucks through the truck yard. I loved going with him to horse auctions. Now in heaven with Jesus, his beloved mom, dad and all the horses he could ever want. Gordon, Elaine, Dorthy, and Shelia, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Doug was a great friend and will be sorely missed.
In the midst of our grief, I am thankful we can find comfort in the fact that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Just think, he is happily singing with his mom and dad. ❤️

I worked with Doug at G & R Equipment for over 30 years. We were all very close and considered each other family. We shared good times and hard time, but always there for each other. Even after our employment relationship ended six years ago we still meet often and stayed in contact on a regular basis. Doug was a great christian and a great friend. We love Doug and he will be missed by his Oklahoma City "family".

Thirty years of friendship has provided many memories. Some of my favorites were when my parents were visiting and the class got together for games. Lots of laughter and he had a special bond with my mother over their favorite coffee cups. Doug was a wonderful Sunday School teacher, and we will miss him. Prayers for your family.

Doug was a genuine friend for many years. We shared interests especially with people, horses and investing in the stock market. He was well liked by everyone who knew him. He believed and lived the teachings of Christ. He loved people and horses. He was very knowledgeable about his business of selling equipment. He was passionate about saving money and finding high quality investments. My heart is sad along with his family and friends. His presence is greatly missed here, but he is rejoicing now with the Lord!

May the peace of our Lord be with Doug’s family. I have known very few people who have used their quiet voice to bring so much to others. What a gift Doug was to all who knew him.
