E. Jean's Story
E. Jean Proch 91, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Oct. 20, 2017, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Jean was born Sept, 26, 1926, in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Clarence F. and Pearl L. Perry Van Horn.
She was married to the late Walter Proch on Sept. 25, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2008.
Jean was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1944. She continued her education and graduated from Jameson Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.
Mrs. Proch worked at Jameson Hospital as a regular duty nurse and also as a private duty nurse. Jean enlisted in the United States Nursing Corps during World War II at the age of 17.
She was a member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She belonged to the Martha Circle and served on the Fellowship Committee and also severed as a deacon. She was a member of the Jameson-Shenango Alumni.
She enjoyed all the time she spent with her family - all the holiday dinners, picnics, birthday and Super Bowl parties. Jean liked to read and work on crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens and feeding the birds.
Jean is survived by two her sons and their wives, Fredrick W. (Judy) Proch of New Castle and Ronnie D. (Lori) Proch of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; three daughters and their husbands, Susan C. (Thomas) Crawford of New Castle, Beverly J. Stoughton of Slippery Rock, Pa., and Cynthia K. (Ronald) Zenobi of Hanahan, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Thomas Crawford, Laura (Michael) Chionchio, Joshua Proch, Jill (Jason) Pastore, Erin (John) Stanley, Colby (Derek) Newbauer, Ronne J. Proch, Bethany Proch, Dillon Zenobi and Vincent Zenobi; and four great-grandchildren, Kelly Nolan, Xavier Zenobi, Luca Pastore and Gabriella Pastore.
In addition to her parents and husband Walter, she was preceded in death by her sister, Olive Van Horn, and her grandson, Shawn W. Crawford.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Chris Curtis of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church and retired Pastor George Yates will officiate. Rite of Committal and burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
The family is asking that memorial contributions be made in her name to the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1911 Harlansburg Road, New Castle, Pa. 16101.
