Edward Horney, 84, of 418 Electric St., New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Sept. 21, 2017, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Edward was born July 17, 1933, in New Castle. He was the son of the late Alex and Nancy Sonchek Horney.
Mr. Horney was married to the former Elizabeth J. Deep. She survives at home.
They were married for 61 years.
Edward was of the Orthodox faith and attended St. Elias Orthodox Church. He was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1951.
Following high school, Mr. Horney enlisted in the United States Army on May 14, 1953. Edward served his country during the Korean War. He was released from active duty on May 13, 1955. Mr. Horney was then assigned to the United States Army Reserve until his Honorable Discharge as a Corporal in 1961.
Mr. Horney retired after 42 years of service with the former Spectrum Mechanical Company and Mesta Machine Company as a welder. Edward was an avid handyman and loved working with his hands. He enjoyed going fishing and was a huge Pittsburgh sports teams fan.
He was a real family man and will be remembered as being the rock of his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends; especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Elizabeth, he is survived by one daughter, Debra (Thomas) Brown of New Castle; two grandsons, Nicholas Brown and his companion Erika Jenkins of Pittsburgh and Andrew Brown of New Castle; and one great-grandson, Grayson Brown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael Horney, Paul Horney and Nick Horney, and two sisters, Nancy Pajak, and infant sister, Nina Horney.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at St. Elias Orthodox Church, 915 Lynn St., New Castle, Pa. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Monday.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Elias Orthodox Church. The Very Rev. Kevin Long will officiate. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery.
