Eileen T. Link Douthitt, 86, of Darlington passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, due to Alzheimer's disease.
Eileen was born Sept. 18, 1931, to the late Mildred (Brenner) Bolland and Clyde Link in New Brighton.
She attended high school in New Brighton and Ellwood City and graduated from Slippery Rock Teacher's College in 1952.
She married Jack Douthitt of Darlington on Dec. 26, 1953, and moved to the family farm.
She taught first grade at Hillcrest Elementary and kindergarten for 30 years at Chippewa and Northwestern Elementary in the Blackhawk School District and retired in 1993.
She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher and ran the Bible School for several summers.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jack, in 2009; sister, Betty Jane (Jim) Trozzo; and son-in-law, David V. Francis Sr.
She is survived by her brother, Donald (Akie) Link of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; son, William; daughters, Debra Acock and Rebecca (Gary) Saymansky, all of Darlington; six grandchildren, Heather (Regis) Stief of Milwaukee, Wis., Robyn Acock of Darlington, Travis (Titania) Acock of Parma, Idaho; Aci Francis of Slippery Rock, Brooke Francis of Niles, Ohio, and James Francis of Darlington; one great-grandchild, Henry Stief of Milwaukee; godson, James Trozzo of North Sewickley Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eileen enjoyed life. Special memories include the kindergarten trips to the farm every spring, going out to dinner with family and friends, and trips to Hawaii, around the U.S. with the family, and to Idaho and Oregon.
Her greatest joys were spent with her family when they gathered for holidays, picnics and reunions. Eileen was an excellent cook and was known for her pies.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Township, gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com. Rev Robert Saul will officiate.
Interment will follow in Concord Cemetery.
