Eleu's Story

Eleu Frances Wilkin Hawthorne, 80, of Timberland Drive N.E., Warren, Ohio, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior after a brief illness at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017.
Eleu was born in New Castle, Pa., on July 9, 1936, to the late Warren Jordon and Sarah Rosanna Snyder Wilkin. She married Samuel Lee Hawthorne on April 6, 1957, and he survives.
Eleu was formerly employed at McKenzie Square at the Eastwood Mall as the store manager for 10 years and also instrumental in her husband's S&N Income Tax Service for over 30 years. In her earlier years, she worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., and later for Penn Power in Pennsylvania.
Eleu was an active member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church and in recent years at North-Mar Church. While at North-Mar, she loved singing in the choir, was active in the Wednesday Bible Study program and involved with Feed My Sheep program for cancer survivors. She was an avid sports fan, especially baseball and participated many years in bowling leagues.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, R. Kay Bruni (Jim) of Pittsburgh; two sons, Jeff W. Hawthorne of Leesburg, Springfield Township,. and Joel L. Hawthorne (Jody) of Akron, Ohio; her twin sister, Elaine W. Stephenson of Decatur, Ala.; her sister, Paige A. DeAngio of Mercer; brother, Todd Wilkin of Florence, Ky.; and eight grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is a sister, Nancy L. Kyle, and a brother, Warren Wilkin Jr.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 4 until 6 p.m. at The Smith Funeral Home in Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant, Pa. The Celebration Service will be on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the North-Mar Church, 3855 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio, with visitation one hour prior to the celebration service. Rev. Myron Daum Sr., pastor of the church, and Rev. Jim Garber will officiate.
Committal will follow at 3 p.m. at 1831 Perry Highway, Leesburg Cemetery, Springfield Township, Mercer County. Memorials may be given to North-Mar Church or the American Cancer Society.
