Elva J. Brown, 95, formerly of Castlewood, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at The Grove at Harmony.
Born April 28, 1921, in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Alice Keller Vogler. She was married on Dec. 3, 1945, to Curtis Glenn Brown, who passed away June 5, 1989. Upon marrying Curtis, she became the mother of his four children who she loved and raised as her own.
Elva was an active and faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church. She served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of Women in Missions, the Glory Group and the Quilter's Group. She was a former Girl Scout Leader. Elva enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting.
Survivors include her three stepchildren, William (Anita) Brown of St. Petersburg, Fla., James (Marjorie) Brown of Ellwood City and Dorothy Jean Moyer of Castlewood; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Amy Hupko.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Nicklas; a stepdaughter, Dianna Brenneman; two grandchildren, Kelly D. Alters and Ronald Brown; four brothers, Ralph, Willard, Walter and Clifford Vogler; and two sisters, Lyla Montgomery and Velma Aggas.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon at the Harmony Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff MacKay will officiate the services. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 4103 Ellwood Road, New Castle, Pa. 16101.
