Eugene's Story

Eugene Joseph Beichner, 93, of New Castle passed away the evening of Oct. 22, 2017, at Sharon Regional Hospital.
Born on July 2, 1924, in Oil City, Pa., he was the son of the late Michael A. and Christine Bauer Beichner. On Aug. 16, 1950, he married his loving and devoted wife, the former Dorothy Ganoe, and the two of them spent over 66 years together until she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2016.
After 37 years of working, Eugene retired as the Industrial Arts teacher for Union Area School District in 1986. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Eugene belonged to the Castle Paws and Taws, Cameos, and Shenengoers Camping Club. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and completing jigsaw puzzles.
Eugene is survived by his children, Barbara Lynn PIstner and husband Larry of Johnsonburg, Pa., Gail Ann Keaty and husband John of Warren, Ohio, and Gary M. Beichner and wife Lynn Ann of New Castle; sisters, Evelyn Lauer of Erie, Pa., and Catherine Mauersberg of Oswego, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Beichner, and sister, Velma Hibbard.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. A procession will leave the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Camillus Church.
Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eugene's honor to New Castle City Rescue Mission, Box 965, New Castle, Pa. 16103.
