Francis M. Gillette, 94, of New Castle passed away the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in New Castle. He was preceded in death by his father, John Gillette; his mother, Margaret Stuart Gillette; and his stepmother, Bessie Harmon Gillette.
On Oct. 27, 1945, he married his beloved wife, the former Mary Gervase, and the two of them spent 68 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2014.
Francis retired as a millwright for Rockwell Standard Axle Division after 40 years of working. While at Rockwell, he would organize fundraisers for Children's Hospital.
Francis served his country as a shipfitter second class in the Navy during World War II, earning the American Area, European-African-Middle Eastern and Asiatic-Pacific ribbons and World War II Victory medal.
He enjoyed fishing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and neighbors.
Francis is survived by his children, Jerry Gillette and wife, Carol, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and Gary Gillette and wife, Karen, and Randy Gillette, all of New Castle; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, stepmother and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Blessing services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Frank Almade, pastor of St. Vitus Church.
Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
