Former New Castle resident Fred J. Maciarello, 97, of Renton, Wash., passed away the morning of Jan. 15, 2018, at his residence.
Born in New Castle on Sept. 26, 1920, Fred was the son of the late John "Jaggers" and Lucy Ross Maciarello. He is survived by his wife, the former Sylvia Monelli, whom he met in 1984.
Fred was a member of St. Anthony Church of Washington and St. Vitus Church. Fred was a World War II veteran, serving his country with the U.S. Army.
Fred retired from Lockheed Air Terminal, where he had worked for 35 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his daughter, Tina Mora of Chicago; his great-niece, Arden Monelli, who was the apple of his eye; his niece, Kathleen and her husband Don Ayala; and his nephew, Richard Presto and his wife Lauren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Paul Marcella, and sister, Louise Presto.
Visitation is Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the funeral home. A procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. for St. Vitus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Frank Almade.
Entombment will take place at Parkside Mausoleum.
