George R. 'J R' McCalla Jr., 78, of Kane, Pennsylvania, passed away at his residence the evening of Sunday, May 13, 2018.
George was born in Enon Valley on Oct. 29, 1939, a son of the late George R. and Margaret Jane Henry McCalla Sr.
"J R" was a graduate of Mount Jackson High School and had attended Geneva College before he left during his final year to go to work.
George had been a driver for Martin Trucking, Mitchell Transport and lastly M.G. Industries in St. Mary's, Pennsylvania.
He had been in his 18th year of retirement and was a proud member of the Teamsters.
George was an avid bowler, enjoyed polka dancing and Blue Grass festivals. He was a member of the Johnson Club and preferred listening to older country music.
He leaves behind his daughters, Georgeanne Cvetan (Herm) of North Beaver Township and Tracy McCalla of New Castle; sister, Charlotte Oliver of Enon Valley; brother, Tom McCalla (Cathy) of Enon Valley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David E. McCalla and Harold R McCalla.
Visitation is scheduled 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday May at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Plyler officiating.
