George A. Vasilcik, 90, formerly of 525 Electric St., passed away the morning of Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at UPMC Jameson Care Center.
George was born Nov. 2, 1927, in New Castle. He was a son of the late George P. and Mary Pavlosky Vasilcik.
He was married to Margaret R. Calabria. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2011. They were married for 62 years.
George was Roman Catholic and attended St. Vitus Church.
Mr. Vasilcik retired after numerous years of service as a chipman in the axle division at the former Rockwell International.
George enjoyed playing the harmonica, listening to talking books on tape, and polka and country music.
Mr. Vasilcik lived for more than 50 years being blind and never complained to anyone.
He was affectionately known as "Slim," and was known for his excellent memory.
George is survived by his daughter, Mary E. (Albert) Russo of New Castle; two sisters, Dolores Kriston and Mary Ann Hudak, both of Akron, Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Margaret, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and John Vasilcik; and a sister, Patricia Vasilcik.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday for St. Vitus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. Frank D. Almade, pastor of St. Vitus Parish, will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
The family is asking memorial contributions be made in his name to the Keystone Blind Association, 2304 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
