Glenn Arthur's Story
Glenn Arthur "Smitty, Pa Pa, Pop" Smith, 84, of New Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Nov. 2, 2017.
He was born in New Castle on July 23rd, 1933.
He resided with his wife, Barbara (Davis), on Melody Lane in New Wilmington, and were members of New Wilmington Presbyterian Church (both members of the chancel choir) for 52 years. They were married for 58 years.
He is survived by his three children, Glenn Jr. (Kimberly Sebring), Daniel (Janet Moesta) and Suzanne (Zack). He and Barb were also blessed with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His brother, Paul, resides in Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna (Patton) and Clifford; his brothers, Lou, and Cliff; and his sister, Evelyn.
Glenn's childhood years were spent in New Brighton, and he graduated high school from Wilkinsburg.
After serving in the Army (Korean War Veteran), he graduated from Westminster College, class of 1959. He played football and baseball, and was recently inducted into the Titan Hall of Fame, class of 2016.
Glenn was a member of New Wilmington Rotary, was the first head football coach for the Wilmington Area High School Greyhounds, and the founder of the New Wilmington Midget Football League.
He was a sales manager for educational supplies and later insurance. Glenn and Barb owned the Book Nook in New Castle for 20 years.
A memorial service at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church, followed by a celebration (location to be determined) is planned for Saturday, Nov. 25.
Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, in his name to the Towering Titan Organization or New Wilmington Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Smith Funeral Home, New Wilmington.
