Harry's Story

Harry L. Banks, 90, of 302 Norwood Ave. passed away the morning of Oct. 7, 2017, at UPMC Jameson.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, James and Mabel; two sisters, Elizabeth and Lois; a brother, James and his wife Thelma Book Banks, who he married on Aug. 19, 1950.
Mr. Banks is survived by two sons, Lewis, of New Castle, Robert and his wife Susan of Sugarland, Texas, and two grandchildren.
Harry was a 1945 graduate of New Castle High School and attended New Castle Business College, Penn State, Sharon Campus, and YSU.
He had a great career with Baltimore and Ohio Railroad passenger service as Station Master at both Youngstown and Mahoningtown. Mr. Banks especially enjoyed handling reservations for the many celebrities coming to Stambaugh Auditorium along with the Kenley Players. Harry did many arrangements for the Warner Brothers in their trips to and from Hollywood. Following his career in the passenger service, He became assistant sales manager for the Akron-Pittsburgh Freight Division.
Mr. Banks owned several businesses including Banks Dairy Bar and Banks Tire Sales. Following a career with the B&O, Harry became a Realtor with Wilshire Reality.
He was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church and the Youngstown Traffic Club. Mr. Banks especially enjoyed travel in his later years. He traveled throughout the country on many bus tours.
Harry was a very fun loving guy who lived life to the fullest. He wants his friends and relatives to remember him in life, not in death.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Arrangements are being handled by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. and internment will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
