Hazel Harriger

Hazel Harriger, 92, of Mt. Jackson entered into the arms of her precious Lord on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, in Hartford, Connecticut, while she was visiting family.
Hazel was born in New Castle on July 10, 1926.
She was a member of Westfield Presbyterian Church since 1956 and served as a deacon, elder and has very faithfully volunteered in many capacities of the church.
Hazel was lovingly known as Mom, Aunt Hazel, Grandma Tractor, Grandma Truck and Grandma Faraway.
Hazel's faith was a foundation for her life and she had a love for the life she devoted to helping others. She was a caregiver to many, touching hundreds of lives and never met a stranger she wouldn't talk to.
She lived to make a positive difference in other people's lives. Her passion for her family and friends was evident with impromptu wiener roasts that could be organized to take place in her backyard.
She is survived by her four children and spouses, Sandra Sidell (Becky Timm) of Niagara Falls, New York, Janet Vignone (Louis) of East Hartford, Connecticut, Russell Harriger (Joyce) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mari DiGia (Richard) of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Robert Vignone, Matthew and Andrew Harriger, and Jeremy, Michelle and Brian DiGia; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessalyn and Rocco Tirado, Catherine and Grace Harriger, Adelaide, Sylas, Elias and Tobias Wilcox-Harriger, Bella DiGia, Everhett DiGia, brother-in-law, Leroy Harriger; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Bertha White; her loving husband of 42 years, Wayne M. Harriger; and her sisters, Lucille, Helen, Jesse and Lois.
Her children would like to thank the staff of Hartford Hospital, staff of the ICU Neurological Unit and 11 North Neurological/Hospice for the compassion and caring they gave our mother during her stay at the hospital.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bessemer. Family will also receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westfield Presbyterian Church.

Hazel White-Harriger was my Paternal Grandfather Clyde E. Whte's 1st cousin. My condolences go to all of her remaining family members. I'm not sure if I ever met Hazel but as a child I did go to the White family reunions. I believe that Hazel is my third cousin.May Hazel rest in the Loving Arms of God. Sincerely, Cindy Lou White-Heath P.S. I bet she was a Great Lady.

Aunt Hazel will always have a special place in my heart. When anyone needed help, Aunt Hazel was always quick to help. She had stories about the family and now I know that she is in the arms of Jesus and telling Him those stories. We will miss you Aunt Hazel. Ginger

Aunt Hazel used to bring me and my sister powder sugar donuts when we were little. I don't think she ever knew what that meant to me as a child. And how many times as an adult I have shared the story of the donuts.
