Helen's Story

Helen E. Jackson, 85, of Jackson Lane, New Beaver Borough, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following a two-day illness.
Born on May 16, 1931, in Ellwood City, she was a daughter of the late James Ralph and Helen Esther Anderson Little.
She was married for 66 years to Robert B. Jackson Jr., who survives.
Helen began her working career as a draftsman with Rexnord and Matthews in Ellwood City, and then at Koppers in Pittsburgh. Helen was currently the jury commissioner for Lawrence County.
She was an active member of the Wampum Presbyterian Church, serving as the secretary for more than 40 years.
Active with local, county and state government, Helen was a former member and past president of the New Beaver Borough Council, former President of the Pennsylvania State Boroughs Association, co-founder of the Pennsylvania State Elected Woman's Association, director of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, State Republican Committee representing Lawrence County and the Lawrence County Planning Commission.
Helen was also a licensed pilot and was a former member and president of the Flying Farmers of America.
She was also involved with many other interests and activities on the local, county and state level.
In addition to her husband, Bob, survivors include three sons, William (Sharon) Jackson of New Galilee, James (Charmaine) Jackson of New Galilee and Robert B. "Charlie" (Lauren) Jackson III, of New Galilee; a daughter, Linda Shellhammer of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Her pastor, the Rev. William R. McGary, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
