Henry Edgar's Story
Henry Edgar Reed, 84, of New Bedford, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at The Grove in New Wilmington (formerly Overlook Medical Clinic).
Henry was born in Andrews, North Carolina (Cherokee County) on April 21, 1933, to Henry Loften Reed and Beulah Palmer Reed.
He graduated from Murphy High School in Murphy, North Carolina in 1951.
He married Pearl Katherine Clark on July 30, 1951.
He worked in quality control at LTV Steel, formerly Sheet and Tube of Youngstown, Ohio.
Henry was a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of New Bedford, where he had previously served as an elder, deacon and Sunday school supervisor. He enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl, at the residence; two daughters, Linda L. York of Deslodge, Missouri, and Jill A. Kimes of York, Pennsylvania; four sons, Larry D. of Aurora, Colorado, Kenneth R. of Hermitage, Steven R. of Youngstown and Donald E. of New Wilmington; two brothers, James R. of Douglasville, Georgia, and John Thomas of Murphy, North Carolina; three sisters, Doris Jean Volrath of Asheville, North Carolina, Martha R. of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Betty A. Stout of Ellijay, Georgia; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank V.; his sister, Mary H. Reed; and his grandson, Jacob S.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Elder Judy Riethmiller of the New Bedford EPC presiding.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
