Herbert Hill, 98, of New Castle, formerly of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at the Haven Convalescent Home, New Castle.
Born July 19, 1919, in Johnstown, he was a son of John and Suzanne (Kolcun) Zahoranski.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julia (Muchesko) Hill; his brother, Wilfred Zahoranski; and his sister, Rita Marie Bombatch.
He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Virus of Johnstown; sister-in-law, Nancy Zahoranski of South Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herbert was a graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
He retired from the Crane Company in New Castle, where he was the plant engineer.
An avid golfer and bowler, Herbert recorded a hole-in-one on the par 3 eighth hole and par 3 16th hole at the Sylvan Heights Golf Course in New Castle.
He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, stationed at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio.
Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Cemetery with military honors by VFW Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad St., Johnstown.
The family would like to thank the Haven Convalescent Home for the kind and loving care they gave to Herbert.
