Howard "Jake" Claypoole Jr., 89, of New Castle passed away the evening of Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at his residence.
Born on June 4, 1927, in Butler County, he was a son of Howard Claypoole Sr. and Myrtle Ace Claypoole.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Claypoole, and he subsequently married Alvadia Claypoole on Sept. 12, 2011.
Jake was employed with City Asphalt for 34 years until his retirement at age 62.
He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Myrtle Callen and Helen Jean Keidel, both of New Castle; a stepdaughter, Joleine Oliver of Ohio; a son, Ronald Claypoole Sr. of New Castle; a brother, Charles Claypoole of Butler; 50 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; and 100 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence Burk; and a stepdaughter, Bessie Stoner.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
