Irene Slaiman Gallo, 89, formerly of Harrison Street, passed away the morning of Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Avalon Nursing Center.
Born May 28, 1928, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Hadged and Mary Sleman Isaac Hammed.
On Feb. 18, 1971, she married her husband, Fred Gallo, and the two of them spent 11 years together until he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1983.
Irene had worked as a bookkeeper for Mahoning Valley Sand Co., and later retired as a registration clerk for St. Francis Hospital.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of El Fityet Allaween Syrian Association.
Irene enjoyed bowling and visiting horse races, and, in her earlier years, dancing.
Irene is survived by her son, Robert J. Slaiman and wife, Mary Ann, of New Castle; her brother, Leroy Hammed of Hayward, California; grandchildren, Amy Wilford and James Slaiman and wife, Carolyn; and great-grandchild, Aleah Skye.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Isaac, Sam Hammed, James Hammed, Joseph Isaac and William Isaac; sisters, Mary DiCecco, Helen Isaac and Norma (Rema) Blake; and great-granddaughters, Keagan and Angel Slaiman.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Valley View Cemetery.
