Joan C. Lees, 84, of Hermitage passed away Monday, May 14, 2018, at Shenango on the Green in New Wilmington following a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 3, 1933, in New Castle, the daughter of the late John N. and Elizabeth Reno Cornelius.
Joan graduated from New Castle High School and later from Grove City College.
It was while attending Grove City that she met the love of her life, Robert E. Lees, to whom she was married for 61 years. He survives.
She was a junior high school teacher in the New Castle Area School District, where she retired after more than 30 years.
She was a former member of the Clen Moore Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed traveling, especially in England and Scotland. Her most cherished times were spent with Bob and their family, close friends and their beloved terriers over the years.
In addition to her husband, Bob, survivors include a sister-in-law, Jane Cornelius of Boardman, Ohio; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wayne Cornelius.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the McGonigle Funeral Home, 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
