John T. Duda Sr., 89, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at the Butler VA Medical Center.
Born on Dec. 28, 1927, in New Castle, he was a son of the late George and Mary Knox Duda.
On Sept. 11, 1954, he married his beloved wife, the former Joanne L. Steiner, and the two of them spent 52 years together until she preceded him in death on April 5, 2007.
John had a long career of serving his country as a member of the Army for 28 years in several locations, including Korea, Germany and Vietnam.
He also worked for Mesta Machine as a machine operator and for the Lawrence County Catholic Cemeteries Association.
John was a member of St. Camillus Church.
John enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and visiting casinos. His greatest joy came from traveling to see his family.
John is survived by his children, Linda Hunter and husband, Gerald, of Woodleaf, North Carolina, Judy Jones and husband, Rick, of New Castle, Darla Kerr and husband, Linden, of Edinburg, Timothy M. Duda and wife, Kari, of Masury, Ohio, and Steven Duda and wife, Doris, of Surprise, Arizona; sisters, Emily Mrozek of New Castle and Bernadine Styla of Southgate, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, John T. Duda Jr.; brothers, Steve, George, Edward and Martin Duda; and sisters, Darlene Caminiti, Mary Presnar, Dorothy Raskowski and Helen Rose Duda.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9 a.m. Saturday to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Camillus Church, officiated by the Rev. Michael Peck.
Entombment will take place in Castle View Memorial Gardens. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct full military rites at the cemetery.
