Joseph F. Butera Jr., 77, of Hickory Township, New Castle, formerly of Wampum, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017, at UPMC-Greenville Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on Aug. 30, 1939, in West Pittsburg, he was a son of Margaret Woods Butera of West Pittsburg and the late Joseph F. Butera Sr.
He was married for 57 years to Anna Louise Pacielle Butera, who survives.
Joe retired from B & W Steel Co. after 29 years of service. He then worked at Koppel Steel until 1998.
Joe graduated from New Castle High School and served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting and fishing. He cherished family vacations and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Anna, and mother, Margaret, survivors include a son, Michael A. (Vonnie) Butera of Cranberry Township; three sisters, JoAnn (John) Marquez of California, Linda (Vincent) Hill of Oregon and Susan Scharf of Ellwood City; a brother, Ronald Butera of New Castle; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and his siblings, Samuel, James and Nancy Butera.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum.
A Blessing Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Zachary Galiyas officiating. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
