Joseph J. Glorioso, 92, of Shenango Township passed away the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 19, 1925, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Luigi and Luigia Crisone Glorioso.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 70 years, the former Carolyn Caffro, whom he married on July 19, 1947.
Joseph served his country as a member of the Army during World War II. He was assigned to the European Theater of Operation, and he fought on Normandy Beach during D-Day. Joseph earned the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Sharpshooter Badge with rifle bar and Good Conduct Medal.
In his earlier years, he owned East Side Distributors. Joseph often helped at the Edward A. DeCarbo Funeral Home and enjoyed working with his friend, Ed. He retired as an agent for American General Life Insurance Company.
Joseph was a member of St. Vitus Church and a past president of its Holy Name Society.
He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 512. Joseph enjoyed golf, bowling, wood crafts and working outside with his landscaping.
He always will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, who cherished the time he spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his children, Karen Esposito and husband, Ron, and Karole Vanasco and husband, David, all of New Castle, Patty Jeffords and husband, Jeff, of Tampa, Florida, and Lee Ann Wawrzynski and husband, Dr. Paul Wawrzynski of New Castle; son-in-law, Andrew Esposito Jr. of New Castle; sisters, Angeline Staph of California, Clara Venditto of Dayton, Ohio, and Annie Iafrat of Grand Blanc, Michigan; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, JoAnn Esposito; and brothers, Carmen "Chuck" Glorioso and Michael Glorioso Sr.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Blessing services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, officiated by Mr. Matthew Hawkins, St. Vitus Seminarian. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites Friday morning at the funeral home.
Entombment will take place in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made in honor of his daughter, JoAnn, to Par for the Cure, 913 Dushane St., New Castle, PA 16101.
