Julius's Story

Julius A. Finamore, 95, formerly of West Englewood Avenue, passed away the morning of Saturday, April 15, 2017, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born on June 13, 1921, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Domenic and Sabina DePirro Finamore.
On Nov. 14, 1942, he married his beloved wife, the former Sophia Rose Skaneski, and the two spent more than 53 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on May 13, 1996.
After 33 years of working, Julius retired as a postal supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service. After retirement, he built several homes in the New Castle area.
He served his country as a member of the Army during World War II.
Julius also was a member of St. Camillus Church and belonged to the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, cooking and traveling.
Julius is survived by his children, James Finamore and his wife, Deborah, of Buffalo, New York, Edmund Finamore and his wife, Dona, of Moon Township, Elaine Baird and her husband, Blake, of Union, Kentucky, and Laura Hollern and her husband, Timothy, of Jamestown, New York; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Angelo, Milo, Frank, George, Albert and Eugene Finamore; and his sisters, Mary Yanni, Virginia Pearl and Dorothy Lunn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Camillus Church, officiated by the Rev. Michael Peck.
Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, where the New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
