Karl's Story

Karl G. Stewart, 81, formerly of Pulaski passed away the morning of June 12, 2017 at Trinity Oaks Nursing Home in Grove City, PA.
Karl was born July 29, 1935 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Harry E. and Emma Belle Smith Stewart, Sr. He was married to the former Kay A. Collins. They were married for 58 years. She survives at home. Karl was of the Protestant faith and attended the Pulaski Methodist Church.
Following high school, Karl enlisted during the Korean War in the United States Navy on December 28, 1954, in Bethesda, MD. Karl attended the Hospital Corps School. He was an operating room technician, and tissue bank technician. He earned the rank of HM3. Mr. Stewart received many decorations and citations; among them where the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. Karl then transferred to the Naval Reserve, until the expiration of the terms of his active duty. Mr. Stewart was Honorably Discharged from active duty on December 27, 1962 in Bethesda MD.
Mr. Stewart worked as an electrician at the former Wheeling and Pittsburgh Steel Company. He retired after 55 years of service as a foreman at Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company. Mr. Stewart was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a former member of Pulaski Sportsman Club. He also enjoyed going to horse races. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Kay, he is survived by two daughters, Brenda J. (Harold) Reynolds of New Wilmington and Mary Kay Glaser of Sharon, PA; foster son, Michael Antoniotti of New Castle; two brothers, John A. (Yvonne) Stewart of Pulaski and James (Marlene) Stewart of Neshannock, Twp.; sister, Emma Lou (J. Russell) Noga of Edinburg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Harry E. Stewart, Jr.
Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2014 at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street, New Castle, PA 16101. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military honors for Karl at 6:45 pm in the Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Rob Piffer will officiate. Burial will be in Neshannock Presbyterian Cemetery. Online condolences may be viewed or given by visiting nogafuneralhome.com
