Lawrence's Story

Lawrence J. Lehmier, 85, of 725 Paul St., New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Aug. 20, 2017, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Lawrence was born March 8, 1932, in Elmora, Pa. He was the son of the late Cletus M. and Dorothy L. James Lehmier.
Lawrence was married to the former Mollie J. Smith. They were married for 61 wonderful years. She survives him at the Haven Convalescent Home.
Lawrence was a graduate of Carrolltown High School, class of 1950.
Following high school graduation, Mr. Lehmier enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. Lawrence earned the rank of Airman Second Class.
He continued his education at St. Francis College earning a bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Education from University of Pittsburgh. Lawrence retired after 29 years of service in the New Castle Area School District as a Special Education Teacher. He enjoyed working with his hands woodworking and playing horseshoes. Lawrence enjoyed watching all Pittsburgh sports teams. He was a member of the VFW Post 315, the CG's Club, and the Eintracht Singing Society Maennerchor.
In addition to his wife Mollie, he is survived by five children, Joan M. (Lee) Pugh of New Castle, Lawrence M. (Rhonda) Lehmier of Coventry, R.I., Kenneth C. (Denise) Lehmier of New Castle, Karen L. (Donald) Peterson of Fredericksburg, Va., and Robert E. (Debi) Lehmier of New Castle; brother, James (Joan) Lehmier of Denver, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lehmier was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Lehmier; and two sisters, Margaret "Louise" Dowey and Eileen Jacko.
Following in Lawrence's wishes, there will be no calling hours of service at this time.
