Mrs. Lena Manos, 102, of New Castle entered into eternal rest after a brief illness on Feb. 19, 2017.
Mrs. Manos was born in Lambertville, N.J., on April 9, 1914. She resided most of her life in New Castle. After a brief illness in 1998, she moved to Arlington, Va., to live with her daughter Rosalie Georgeadis until 2010 when she moved to Golden Hill Nursing Home.
As a New Castle resident, she was very active in her church and a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Auxiliary of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. She was a former member of the Daughters of Penelope in New Castle, Pa., and Alexandria, Va. While living in New Castle, she was a member of the Over 50's club and was a regular attendee of their events. She was the owner and proprietor of The Lady Manos Shoppe from 1962 to 1968. She also helped her husband in his business at the Colonial Shoe Shine on East Washington Street.
Mrs. Manos was an exceptional lady throughout her long life. She was gifted in poetry, winning honorable mention for several of her poems. She was an avid letter writer which helped her keep in touch with her many friends as well as our military serving abroad. She created and made her Michaelena Dolls selling them and donating the proceeds to various charities. She was recognized by St. Jude's hospital for donating a doll a month for many of the children. Mrs. Manos was a woman of strong faith and love of life.
Mrs. Manos was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emmanuel (Mike) Manos and three sons, George of Hermitage, Pa., Samuel of Deltona, Fla., and Michael and wife Patti of Port Orange, Fla., and four grandchildren, Mark, George and Doug Manos and Faye Manos Quinn. She is survived by her children, George and Rosalie Georgeadis of Arlington, Va., and Lillian Manos of Deltona, Fla. She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home on 3000 Wilmington Road from 4 to 7 p.m. A Trisagion Service, a special prayer service, will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church on Friday at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Father Michael Gavrilos.
Interment will take place at Oak Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 315 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, Pa. 16105.
