Lenora E. Stone

Lenora E. Stone (Christly) of New Castle, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sept. 9, 2019, at Quality of Life Services of New Castle at age 97.
Lenora was born in New Castle on April 24, 1922, to the late Ernest and Grace Powell Christly.
A 1939 graduate of New Castle Senior High School, she also attended Penn Ohio College.
She married Eli J. Stone on Jan. 15, 1944.
During World War II, Lenora worked for the U.S. Civil Service at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where her husband was stationed until the end of the war.
She later was employed by the New Castle Area Schools and Simco Management.
Active as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader in the 1950's and 1960's, Lenora also was a member of The Easter Seal Society for many years.
Lenora enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Always curious and interested, she read both fiction and nonfiction.
She and her husband also enjoyed the performing and visual arts, and together they attended many concerts, dance performances and art and history exhibitions. They loved to dance and did so often.
Lenora was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; a son, Darrell Stone in 1962; and a brother, Eugene Christly in 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Stone of Reading, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews in the New Castle area and elsewhere.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
