Leonard R. Gajda, 73, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born on Oct. 14, 1943, in New Castle, he was a son of the late John and Mary Maslyk Gajda.
Surviving at home is his beloved wife of 20 years, the former Helen George, whom he married on Feb. 20, 1997.
Leonard had worked as a machinist and owned the Gajda Machine Shop for 47 years before retiring.
He was a member of Neshannock Presbyterian Church.
An outdoorsman at heart, Leonard enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Coachmen Club. He also liked to golf and visit casinos.
Leonard loved spending time with his family and really enjoyed the company of his dog, Tajie.
In addition to his wife, Leonard is survived by his children, Todd Gajda and wife, Kim, of Columbus, Ohio, Doug Gajda of New Wilmington and Christina Ross and husband, Marke Walawander Jr., of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; brothers, Paul Gajda and wife, Jane, of Slippery Rock and James Gajda and wife, Linda, of New Castle; six grandchildren; three aunts; an uncle; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Gwen; and sister, Joan Gajda.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Memorial services will be held at noon Monday at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Larry Cole.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leonard's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
