Lisa D. Burkett Murphey, 49, of New Castle passed away the morning of Jan. 15, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital from injuries received from a car accident.
Born Sept. 12, 1968, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Albert R. Burkett and Frances Rose Burkett Trusel.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Murphey, whom she married June 27, 1999.
A graduate of New Castle High School, she received her LPN degree from Lawrence County Vo-Tech and attended Jameson School of Nursing. She was formerly employed at Primary Health Network as an LPN.
Lisa enjoyed playing softball for several New Castle leagues and loved watching her son play sports. She will be missed by her faithful dog, Bella, whom she loved. She attended First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother Frances and stepfather Robert Trusel of New Castle; two sons, Jason Burkett of New Castle and Devin Murphey of New Wilmington; one stepdaughter, Nicole Murphey; two brothers, Russell Burkett and James Burkett of New Castle; and three sisters, Shirley Jacobs of Mount Jackson, Robin Burkett of New Wilmington and Marlane Lutz of New Castle.
She was preceded in death by her father; one son, Joshua W. Shaftic; one sister, Connie Watters; and a niece, Brittney Watters.
A one-hour visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 18, from noon to 1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A private service will be held for the family following visitation at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
