Lois 'Jean''s Story
Lois E. "Jean" Johnson, 91, of Grove City for the past 19 years and formerly of Plain Grove, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, in Grove Manor.
She was born in Plain Grove on the family homestead on April 26, 1926, to Theodore S. and Pearl E. (McLane) Minor.
Jean married John A. Johnson Jr. on Oct. 6, 1945, who preceded her in death in January 1992.
Jean was a 1944 graduate of Plain Grove High School. She was a longtime member of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church and attended East Main Presbyterian Church while living in Grove City in her later years.
She was a homemaker and retired from Slippery Rock University in 1978, where she worked in food service in North Hall.
She is survived by three children, Doris Brown and husband Tim of Tucson, Ariz., Margaret "Peggy" Smith and husband Jack, of Jamestown and Keith Johnson of Grove City; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evaline Hillmar and husband Glenn of Tucson.
Her parents, husband and a sister, Avanell Burns, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Plain Grove Presbyterian Church or East Main Presbyterian Church.
Funeral service will be held at East Main Presbyterian Church, 120 E. Main St., Grove City, on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday in the Welcome Center of East Main Presbyterian Church from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in South Plain Grove Cemetery.
