Lois Marie's Story
Lois Marie Hoye McConnell, 71, of Georgetown Road, Volant, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at her residence.
Lois was born in New Castle on Jan. 25, 1946, to the late John and Blanche Gardner Hoye.
She married John Ezra McConnell on Dec. 7, 1968.
Lois graduated from Wilmington High School in 1963, and from Mansfield College with a bachelor's degree in education in 1967.
She was a home economics teacher at New Castle and Wilmington High School.
Lois returned to the family farm, known as Hillcrest Jersey Farm, helping raise Jersey cattle.
An active member of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, she was moderator of the Deacons and the Presbyterian Women. She taught Sunday school and was a director of Bible School.
Lois was a leader in the Lawrence County 4-H program for about 15 years.
Lois is survived by her husband, John, of the residence; three daughters, Pamela McConnell of Volant, Roberta (Ryan) Baney of Wampum and Joy (Sammy) Staples of Hermitage; two brothers, Clarence (Margie) Hoye of Williamsville, Ohio, and Donald (Edy) Hoye of New Wilmington and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.
Funeral services will at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, with visitation an hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Stanley Keehlwetter will officiate.
Interment will follow at South Plain Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
