Mary J. DePaolo, 93, of New Castle passed away the morning of Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Haven Convalescent Home.
Born on Aug. 12, 1924, in Muddy Creek, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Emmanuel and Lydia Laugher Gongaware.
In 1952, she married her husband, Frank J. DePaolo, and the two of them spent 27 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 1979.
Mary had worked for Johnson Bronze and as a painter for Shenango China. She later worked for Airway Luggage and in the housekeeping department for Jameson Hospital. Mary retired from the housekeeping department for Liberty Mutual.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. For more than 30 years, Mary volunteered for Bible Study at Haven Convalescent Home.
She enjoyed quilt making, crocheting, baking and cooking. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Denise Owens of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Francine M. Miller of New Castle; grandchildren, Jeff Mitten, Marcie Lambert and husband, Evan, Albert Owens and wife, Amanda, Jenny Shultz, Lewis Miller, Matthew Miller and Lacey Miller; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna J. Mitten; son-in-law, Lewis Mitten; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor John Yergan.
