Mary S. Elliott, 88, of New Wilmington passed away the night of June 20, 2017, at her residence.
Born Sept. 17, 1928, in New Castle, Pa., she was the daughter of Harry S. and Florence Cunningham Shuttleworth.
Mary was preceded in death on March 27, 2017, by her husband of 68 years, Thomas C. Elliott II, whom she married on Oct. 2, 1948.
Mary was an active member in the community, serving on several boards and involved in many clubs and activities including the New Castle Area School Board; 1968 First Lady of New Castle; Vice President of the Woman's Federation; President of the Junior Women's Club; Wilmington Garden Club; American Heart Association; Rainbow and Taps; St. Francis Hospital Board and St. Francis Association Auxiliary; Westminster College; St. Francis Festival of Trees; New Castle Country Club; New Castle Country Club Ladies Golf Chairman; Executive Board of Jameson Memorial Hospital; Ways and Means Chairman of The Holly Ball; headed Lawrence County Community Concert Association; Lawrence County March of Dimes; Greater New Castle Association; Board of the New Castle Playhouse; recognized in Harrisburg for Women in politics; Vice President of the Southwest District of the Pennsylvania State Federation of Women's Clubs; and was the owner and operator of "The Front Porch" in New Wilmington.
She is survived by her children, Thomas C. Elliott III and wife Patti of New Castle, James S. Elliott and wife Debbie of Volant, Stephen J. Elliott and wife Bonnie of New Wilmington, Moira Elliott of Lighthouse Point, Fla., Quentin Elliott and wife Olof Sigmarsdottir of Essex, Conn., Margrethe Elliott-Rose and husband Scott of New Wilmington, and Eric Elliott and wife Christine of New Wilmington; her grandchildren, Christian (Shannon) Elliott, James Elliott, Aaron (Jennifer) Elliott, Sean (Heather) Elliott, Adrien (Tyler) Domske, Dustin (Sara) Elliott, Jaclyn Elliott, Noah Elliott, Kyra Elliott (Roderick Seurattan), Anastasia Elliott, Tomas Elliott, Alex Speirs, David Leake (Lisa), Christie (Mark) Baker, Eric Elliott and Alanna Elliott; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Glendon, who died in 2004.
The family would like to thank Dr. Norberto Yumang, Jameson Hospice and all of Mary's caregivers for their exceptional care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Camillus Church, 314 E. Englewood Ave., New Castle with the Rev. Father Michael Sedor officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
