After a long hard fight, many serious operations and health issues, Mary Jane just couldn't take it any longer and passed away on Wednesday, Sep. 27, 2017, in her sleep at home surrounded by close family at the age of 87.
She was born in New Castle and was the eldest of five children to the late Joseph and Mary Frigone.
In 1962, she met and married David Diana, then living in York, Pennsylvani, and they shared many wonderful experiences during their 55 years of marriage.
Mary Jane leaves behind her loving children, Gary Diana of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Carol Padgett of Sarasota, Florida; siblings, Susie Johnston of Marysville, Pennsylvania, Sandra Doubt (William) and Samuel Frigone (Margaret), both of New Castle; and cherished grandsons, Parker and Cameron Padgett, both of Sarasota.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Connie Mangino of New Castle; and son, David Diana Jr.
Mary Jane was a wonderful, strong and positive thinking person, always ready to help in any situation. She was hostess to many successful fund-raising luncheons for the Illinois Children's Home and Aid Society; was active in a leadership role for the Friends of the Library in Champaign, Illinois, and volunteered for many other charitable events while in Champaign and Elmhurst, Illinois.
Mary Jane was active in the development and management of the family business, Diana Foods, and was always ready and willing to entertain using her considerable Italian cooking skills.
Most of all, she was a loving mother and grandmother and a very loyal, dependable friend. Also a competitive sports fan, avid reader and good player of all kinds of Solitaire and other electronic games. Because of her ability to endure and recover from severe life-threatening episodes with a strong positive attitude, she was a role model for many experiencing challenging health issues.
Friends and family frequently referred to her by various names like "Wonder Woman," "The Energizer Bunny" and even "Miracle Woman."
Our family will have to adjust to a some what different life style without Mary Jane's strong, loving presence. She will be sorely missed.
